London Churches Refugee Fund
LCRF Makes grants twice a year to numerous refugee projects in London to support destitute refugees
Thank you for your interest in applying to be a trustee of The London Churches Refugee Fund!
(Web site: lcrf.org.uk)
The London Churches Refugee Fund (LCRF) is a registered charity run entirely voluntarily by the Trustees and three core volunteers. LCRF raises money to make twice yearly grants of up to £1000 each to scores of refugee projects across London so they can buy travel cards, phone credit, nappies, hygiene items, and food vouchers, and make emergency payments to give to the thousands of DESTITUTE refugees and asylum seekers who come to these refugee projects for support, legal advice, trauma therapy, friendship and food.
Importantly, LCRF has no staff and no office. Trustees and volunteers undertake ALL the work of the charity voluntarily, which means that nearly every penny we raise goes directly towards these vital grant making activities.
In 2024 LCRF distributed over £50,000 in small grants to 44 Refugee Projects in London for the above purposes. Some projects apply for a grant in both our May and November annual grant rounds. Since 2006, thanks to the generosity of hundreds of individuals and scores of churches, LCRF has awarded 638 grants totalling £500,000 to 107 refugee projects across London.
We are currently seeking to renew, enlarge and refresh the trustee board following the recent resignation, after many years of outstanding and dedicated service, of two of our older trustees, and we are most grateful for your interest in applying to join us.
Your role as a Trustee :
1) You will be joining a group of friendly, supportive and committed trustees with a diversity of skills and experience, who are passionate about the mission of LCRF. You will be willing to work within, and be comfortable with, a Trustee Board committed to the Churches engagement supporting destitute refugees and asylum seekers in London, and be comfortable with expressions of Christian faith and the saying of prayers at Trustee Board meetings.
2) You will be expected to attend each meeting of the Trustee Board : usually about 6 to 8 Trustee Meetings a year, at a date and time as agreed by board members in advance. Meetings are currently held at 4pm on a weekday, and last about two and a half hours. They are held (pro bono) in the spacious office of one of the Trustees in the Shoreditch (E2) district of London. Trustees currently use their own personal computers, phone and other equipment as required.
3) You will be willing to contribute fully to the Trustee discussions and to take part in planning, developing and implementing the work of LCRF. You will also be expected, as your capability allows, to participate in fund raising projects such as the Annual Carol Singing for 4 hours outside a TFL underground station, assisting with and encouraging the sale of LCRF Christmas Cards, attending the Annual LCRF Speaker meeting, visiting local churches to encourage donations and support for LCRF, and similar charitable, fund raising and outreach events. Twice a year you will join other trustees in scrutinising the grant applications submitted by refugee projects, and writing to inform the projects about the outcome of their applications.
4) You will also be willing to join one of the subgroups that are set up during the year responsible for taking the lead in organising and delivering these, and other, activities, which might include: designing and producing the annual LCRF Christmas cards, annual report or other publicity or marketing material; conceiving and delivering a specific fund raising event; producing content for the annual report and website.
5) Following the recent resignation of our long standing and faithful secretary we are also looking for someone willing to offer secretarial and administrative skills taking detailed minutes of our meetings and working with our treasurer to submit the annual return to the charity commission.
Before exploring further, or applying for consideration to take up the role of trustee, please consider carefully whether you feel you currently have the, energy, enthusiasm and skill set for carrying out some the above tasks relating to the role of LCRF Trustee and contributing to the work of the trustee board as described above.
If you have… we would be delighted to explore this possibility with you further and look forward to hearing from you. Thank you so much.
