Religious of Mary Immaculate

Helping young women in their Christian/human formation and sanctification

The Sisters of the Religious of Mary Immaculate are looking for English teachers for Saturday afternoons from 2.30 to 4.30pm (September-June).

How will you make a difference?

The sisters run a free service for adults to help them find work as a cleaner, nanny, cleaner, cook or carer. Most of the people who attend the social centre during the week are women from Latin America.

As part of a project to help these people, English lessons are regularly given on Saturdays at the RMI hostel (it also happens that some of the foreign students staying in the sisters’ hostel attend English classes during their first months in London).

Indeed, these people – Spanish-speaking, for 98% of them – generally do not speak English well and really need lessons to be able to find a job and get by in London.

There are two levels of English classes: one is “beginner / elementary” (level 1), while the other is “intermediate” (level 2). When we have enough volunteers, we divide each level into 2 small groups, to make the lessons more efficient. This means that we usually have 4 groups on Saturdays.

By teaching them English, you will enable them to reach the level of English needed to get a part-time or full-time job with families or in the hospitality industry.

Classes are held every Saturday and run from approximately the end of September to the end of June.

No volunteers are required to be present every Saturday, as we have a rota system, where everyone gives their availability (this can be for example 2 times a month, or more or less).

Can we count on you? 🙂
