On 18 July, students, staff and friends of Caritas St Joseph’s came together for the centre’s annual Achievement Day, a celebration of students’ accomplishments over the course of the academic year.
Following months of preparation by students, staff and volunteers, the event began with a series of performances showcasing what students had worked on. These included storytelling, music and dance, and highlighted the breadth of activities and interdisciplinary opportunities offered by the centre.
After the performances, Bishop Paul McAleenan presented each student with a certificate and a medal in recognition of their hard work throughout the year, as proud family and friends clapped and cheered.
Bishop Paul noted: ‘the joy of the students was heart-warming for everyone who attended; staff, visitors, families and guests.’
The ceremony concluded with strawberries and cream in the garden, where attendees mingled with students and looked back on the centre’s achievements over the past year.
Gail Williams, Head of Caritas St Joseph’s, reflected: ‘It is so important that we acknowledge our students’ talents in this way. And it is also a special occasion for their families, especially for relatives of students who don’t live at home.’
Achievement Day marked the end of the academic year 2023/4 at Caritas St Joseph’s. The centre looks forward to reopening its doors in September, and is excited to begin offering City & Guilds and Trinity-accredited arts courses to its students.
