Love in Action
Parishes and Schools across the Diocese will be running the Love in Action programme in Autumn, in the lead up to World Day of the Poor on the 19th of November.
Love in Action is a six-week programme designed to introduce groups to six themes of Catholic Social Teaching, help them to understand the needs of their local community, and start social action projects.

Newman Catholic College Day
On the 4th of July, the team spent the day at Newman Catholic College in Brent running workshops for Yr 10 and Yr 12 on Catholic Social Teaching, using our Love in Action resources.
Feedback from the students included:
‘Today, I have been educated to be myself. To respect what I have been given. To value the delights in life, to be grateful. Thank you for projecting your excellence onto me and hopefully others’
‘We are all members of one body’
‘I learned that we should care for everyone and if you have the opportunity to help someone we should’
‘Our future relies on how we care for our world and other who live in it’.
St Mary’s University/South West London Update
Our Development worker Edd is gearing up for Welcome Fortnight at St Mary’s University. He’s looking to get students involved in three projects: Goodgym, Contact the Elderly and Homeshare.
- Homeshare is a scheme that matches people who want help or support around the house with people who need accommodation and are willing to help.
- Contact the Elderly organise afternoon tea parties for small groups of older people aged 75 and over, who live alone, offering a regular and vital friendship link every month.
- Goodgym are community of runners that combine getting fit with doing good by running to help either at a community project, or to an older isolated person at home. A Goodgym taster session is booked for 19th September so students can try it out.
If you’re a student at St Mary’s and interested in getting involved you can contact Edd: edward.dequay@stmarys.ac.uk
