A centre for adults with intellectual disabilities to learn

We are looking for someone to help with garden maintenance work, including weeding, pruning, deadheading and tidying up.

As Garden Volunteer, you will support the Horticulture Tutor and work under her direction. The work involved requires physical fitness, flexibility and willingness to work outdoors in a range of weather conditions. Tasks will include weeding, pruning, and deadheading, mowing, and general garden maintenance.

We currently require a garden volunteer to commit to half a day a week, on a regular basis, from 9am to 1pm, followed by a 30 minute lunch break.

Lunch will be provided by St Joseph’s. You will be given a Welcome Pack, a Volunteers Handbook, steel toe-capped boots, as well as Health & Safety training and other instructions appropriate to the tasks you will be undertaking.

As St Joseph’s Pastoral Centre works with adults who have intellectual disabilities, you will be required to pass DBS checks. St Joseph’s will make the DBS application for you. Travel expenses including tube, tram or bus fares will be reimbursed. As will expenses for up to a 30 mile round trip at 45p per mile per volunteering day.

Desirable qualities:

• A passion for, or interest in, horticulture and gardening.
• Happy to work both in a team and on your own.
• Enjoy working outdoors.
• Being reasonably physically fit.
• Having a basic knowledge of ornamental and edible plants.

Hours per week: 4 hours
