Hitchin Pantry Volunteer awarded by North Herts Council

|

One of five winners of ‘North Herts Heroes 2025,’ David received the Caring Award for his support of isolated individuals over the past three years. David goes the extra mile in helping the Pantry’s clients, for example by managing the adjacent Community Café and assisting Asylum Seekers with moving to new homes.

Watch the video below to find out more about David’s work and Hitchin Pantry:

Based at the parish of Our Lady Immaculate and St Andrew, Hitchin Pantry allows individuals and families to access a range of food items at a reduced price. With its supermarket-style approach and a focus on customer choice, Hitchin Pantry offers a more dignified, flexible approach to tackling food insecurity.

David truly follows the example of Christ in the way he shows love to others. He lives out his faith by his actions: whether you are an Asylum Seeker, a customer at the Pantry or a homeless person, David will welcome you with open arms. He’s been with the Pantry from the beginning, and I am so proud that his efforts have been recognised by the wider community.
