HRH Princess Eugenie and Julia de Boinville visited Caritas Bakhita House on Wednesday 16 June.
On one of the hottest days of the year, they shared home-made ice-cream in the garden with the guests – survivors of modern slavery and trafficking from seven different countries.
Eugenie and Julia are founders of The Anti Slavery Collective, a group which aim to bring people together to raise awareness of modern slavery and work for change.
They encourage law enforcement agencies, policy makers, journalists, academics, NGOs, companies, individuals, and survivors to collaborate and share ideas on how we can fight human trafficking.
As part of their work Princess Eugenie and her best friend Julia, visit projects working on the front-line with survivors of slavery.
On meeting some of the eight women, aged between 31 and 59, who currently live at Caritas Bakhita House, the visitors said they were so amazed by their immense strength, determination, and positive attitude about life.
Karen Anstiss, Bakhita House Manager said “We were pleased to have Princess Eugenie and Julia de Boinville for a second visit to the House. Modern Slavery is too big an issue for any single group to tackle alone so we welcome the work of the Anti-Slavery Collective in raising awareness and strengthening coalitions.”
