On Saturday 7th December, Caritas St Joseph’s hosted its annual Christmas Carol Service, a lively celebration held at its lifelong learning centre in Hendon. The service was presided by Bishop Paul McAleenan, Chair of Caritas Westminster, and was attended by students, staff, family and friends, and supporters of the centre.
The centre was beautifully adorned with festive lights, Christmas trees and decorations made by students. The service opened with a welcome from Gail Williams, Head of Caritas St Joseph’s, along with an opening prayer from the Bishop.
This was followed by a performance of the Nativity Story by students of Caritas St Joseph’s, interspersed with Advent Scripture readings, prayers and carols. The service concluded with a blessing from Bishop Paul, after which attendees enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies prepared during the centre’s cookery classes.
Arts and crafts made by students were also displayed for guests to purchase, and the evening closed with a raffle draw and the distribution of prizes.
‘Caritas St Joseph’s carol service is always an occasion of joy,’ said Bishop Paul McAleenan. ‘It was wonderful to see the students participating and being supported by family and friends. This event is a great way to celebrate the work that takes place at the centre and within the community.’
Gail Williams reflected: ‘For me, Christmas truly begins with our carol service; a chance to reconnect with friends past and present, and the perfect blend of our outreach, Hendon and Connect@ communities.’
